My First Gallery Exhibition and Eric Schmitt
My first gallery exhibition came about when I met an art publisher in Paris, Christophe Boutin who introduced me to Eric Schmitt. We didn’t know much about each other so we had a fun meeting talking about our common past in the music industry, people we both knew, looking at images of furniture, French galleries etc. I right away loved Eric’s esthetics, his pure lines and choice of material so I knew I wanted to work with him and see more of his pieces shown in American design projects.
I was just planning the opening of my gallery in New York and Eric was already well established working in Paris and New York with Jacques Grange for the renovation of the Mark Hotel and with Ralph Pucci so my question was what can I do with him. I thought of another artist friend of mine, Bella Meyer who was just opening her Flower design studio, Fleurs Bella, and presented to both the idea of doing an exhibition of Eric Schmitt’s vases in bronze and Bohemian hand-blown glass with flower arrangements by Bella. Eric couldn’t have been easier to work with. He designed the table stands on which the vases were shown and came to New York early to install the exhibition. It turned out that Bella and Eric had family ties and I felt really lucky to inaugurate my space with this show. Suddenly my dream of expanding my French 20th Century focus and work with contemporary artists in Decorative arts came true. I look forward to working again with Eric in 2011.
