Bio

Valerie Goodman grew up in Paris surrounded by art and artists. Her great grand father Rubin Sobol photographed the Cabaret stars of the 20s and 30s among them Mistinguette and Josephine Baker, her grandmother, who escaped the war by taking the last boat out of Marseilles to Argentina, owned a literary bookstore/salon in St Germain des Pres in the early 50’s where the writers of the Nouveau Roman among others used  to meet. Her mother collected antiques and  father, was a painter in Paris. 


Valerie studied art and literature at the Sorbonne and came to New York in 1983  to work in the arts, music and  film. She managed bands, produced music, films and photographic exhibitions .

 
Since 2003 Valérie Goodman re-connected with her French roots and has focused on selling primarily 20th-century European furniture, lighting and decorative pieces In 2009, Valerie opened her own gallery, in addition to 20th Century Pieces she presents  the work of contemporary French artists working in the decorative arts. Her focus is on discovering and presenting exciting work that is cutting edge, spiritual and timeless.
